LOTR Blog 1: The Desolation Of Smaug

LOTR Blog 1: The Desolation Of Smaug
Hey, everyone! Welcome to our first blog. This is Liegh Dap here. Well, you may know from the Marvel Universe Fan Blog. I decided to create a Lord of The Rings themed blog. And this is it's first entry. Now of course the big buzz with all LOTR fans is The Desolation of Smaug. The first trailer was released recently along with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug official site. (www.thehobbit.com) You can view the trailer there or go to our featured videos above. I first have to say I was blown away. I've been even more excited for this movie now. First off, I like to pay attention to every single detail of trailers. And I mean EVERY detail. Which means I watch the video over and over again... Well, I guess I also just like to watch it. At the beginning of the trailer we hear Thranduil's voice. Thranduil is the king of Mirkwood and also is Legolas' father.
He speaks of Thorin's quest to slay Smaug and reclaim his homeland. While he's speaking we get a good look at Mirkwood. And after Thranduil's done talking we see the dwarves falling into the river in... barrels? Yes. If your surprised at that then you probably didn't read the book. And if you really didn't read the book, I have one piece of advice. GO READ IT. Anyway, after that we get a good look at Mirkwood and... wait for it... Legolas! Yes, as I hoped my favourite elf of all time is going to be in the second Hobbit. My reaction was this:.........*speechlessness*
Then there was a giant dog, which I cannot explain why that he is in it cause' there was nothing about a giant dog in the book. Next, there was Tauriel, the daughter of Mirkwood. I can't help but feeling there will be this sister/brother relationship between Legolas and Tauriel, since Tauriel's the daughter of Mirkwood and Legolas is the son of the King of Mirkwood. Just a thought. Then we got to see Laketown, which was quite impressive. After all they did Laketown on a set and built the whole thing. (Except the background, which was probably a green-screen)
\
In the trailer we also see Radaghast again, which I'am surprisingly excited for. We also see Bilbo in the Lonely Mountain sliding in a giant pile of gold. On the evil side we get to see the pale orc and those spiders from Mirkwood.
Along with Laketown, we also get to see Bard the Bowman. (Spoiler Alert!!) In the book, equipped with his black arrow, Bard kills Smaug when it attacks Laketown.
But out of all these awesome things, I think the most surprising and most anticipated character we got to see was... Smaug! And of course you guys want to see him again, right? Course you do. Here he is:

From these pictures we can tell Smaug is red and a little bit goldenish. And he's way much bigger than I thought he was going to be. (Course Bilbo's a hobbit) This past few weeks have been really exciting for all of us, Hobbit fans. I can't wait to see more of the second movie soon. And yesterday, Peter Jackson, director of the film, posted their first video blog of the second Hobbit. I'll post it in the featured videos. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this first blog entry! I'll be juggling both LOTR and Marvel blogs now. So I may start a schedule where I post A entry on both blogs every two weeks. We'll see. Again, I hoped you enjoyed! I can't wait to start working on the next one! See ya next time!
